Understand the property before you commit

Buying a home can feel exciting right up until a hidden defect lands in your lap, and that's exactly why we carry out detailed building surveys across Suffolk. We inspect the property carefully and explain what we find in plain language, so you can understand the condition without wading through jargon. Older homes, listed buildings, timber-framed houses and places that have been altered over time often need a closer look because the real story is not always obvious from a viewing.

We check visible structural issues, maintenance concerns and likely repair priorities, helping you weigh up the purchase with your eyes open. You'll also have a clearer sense of future costs, which can be useful if you're planning works or thinking about renegotiating the agreed price. We carry out this work from our Woodbridge base, and Chiltern Associates Chartered Surveyors gives you independent advice that stays focused on your interests.

Really pleased to have worked with Nina! She’s very personable, easy to communicate with, and extremely flexible — especially when we had to postpone our initial survey date. Her Level 3 report was incredibly thorough, detailed, and turned around quickly. Highly recommend!

What we look at during the survey

Every inspection is shaped around the building itself, because a modern flat and a thatched cottage rarely tell the same tale. We assess accessible areas such as the roof, loft, walls, floors, windows, drainage and visible services, then note signs of damp, movement, decay or poor maintenance. If the property has been extended or altered, we also consider how those changes may affect condition and future upkeep.

Our reports include annotated photographs, which makes it easier for you to match the written findings to the parts of the building that matter most. Around Suffolk, buyers often turn to Chiltern Associates Chartered Surveyors when a property has character, age or visible concerns that deserve a more searching review.
